ELENA TAGUA NECKLACE. Elena wears sustainable, eco-friendly style. Interests: kayaking coastal coves, quirky festivals, native plant gardening. The necklace showcases 2 strands of small tagua, hand tied on an adjustable cotton cord. Put her on, and you glide forward with steady energy and a deep connection to nature.
Tagua is a nut from a palm tree, found only in South America. Most is found in Ecuador, in my Manabi region along the coast. It is commonly called vegetable ivory. It is so close in makeup and appearance, it is difficult to distinguish from animal ivory. Gathering the fallen tagua, has many benefits economically and naturally sustains the rainforest. It causes no harm, unlike the cruel world of sourcing animal ivory. Our beads are the nut of açaí berries, commonly referred to and sold as tagua. Like tagua, açaí is a nut from a palm tree, found in South America’s equatorial rainforests.
Each is unique and will vary slightly from photos. Tagua has natural shapes and sizes. Please allow for slight differences that are not flaws.
Tagua makes a beautiful gift! Ecuador’s treasure is yours! Muchas Gracias!
